Class Compass collects no personal information. The extension operates entirely within your browser and does not transmit any data about you to our servers.
The only data the extension processes is professor names that appear on the course search pages of supported universities. This processing happens locally in your browser for the sole purpose of fetching publicly available ratings from Rate My Professors. Professor names are not stored, logged, or transmitted beyond what is necessary to complete that lookup.
Class Compass does not access, read, store, or transmit any of the following:
We do not use analytics tools, advertising pixels, or tracking scripts of any kind within the extension.
When you navigate to a supported university course search page, Class Compass does the following:
Class Compass only activates on the specific course search pages of supported universities. It does not run on any other websites, and it does not monitor your general browsing activity.
Clicking a rating badge opens that professor's Rate My Professors profile page in a new tab. At that point, you are subject to Rate My Professors' own privacy policy and terms of service.
Class Compass retrieves professor rating data from Rate My Professors. This data is publicly available and does not require authentication. Class Compass is not affiliated with or endorsed by Rate My Professors.
When the extension requests rating data, the request includes a professor's name as a search query. Rate My Professors may log this request as part of their normal server operations, subject to their own privacy policy.
We do not share any data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties. We do not sell data.
Class Compass does not maintain any database of user information. The extension may use your browser's local storage to cache recently fetched professor ratings for performance — for example, so that navigating back to a course listing does not require a repeat network request.
This cached data contains only professor names and their corresponding public rating information. It does not contain any personal information about you. It is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us. You can clear this data at any time by removing the extension or clearing your browser's local storage.
Class Compass is designed for use by college students and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Because Class Compass collects no personal information from any user, there is no specific risk to younger users — but the extension is intended for and marketed exclusively to a university-age audience.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users through the Chrome Web Store listing or our website.
Continued use of Class Compass after any changes to this policy constitutes acceptance of those changes. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
If you have any questions about this privacy policy or how Class Compass handles data, please reach out. We're happy to clarify anything.
We'll get back to you promptly. We have nothing to hide — because we collect nothing to begin with.
